Etymology

Compound of 親(おや) (oya, “parent”) + 殺(ころ)し (koroshi, 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 殺(ころ)す (korosu, “kill”). The koroshi changes to goroshi as an instance of rendaku (連濁).).
